  • Nurse Revalidation

Welcome to BCHC NHS Foundation Trust Nurse Revalidation education and support resources.

This area of the Virtual Campus is designed to assist you with your Revalidation and supports the Trust Revalidation training days. It has been designed to ensure that you have access to the important documents that you will need to complete your Revalidation on time and helping you keep your stress levels to a minimum!

Nurse Revalidation has put the NMC Code of Conduct (Revised 2018) at its heart. The requirements of revalidation reflect the Code and really focus our attention as nurses and nursing associates upon it; guiding and supporting us in our practice. The process of Revalidation is focused around the key tenets of the Code:

    • Prioritise People
    • Practice Effectively
    • Preserve Safety
    • Promote Professionalism and Trust

We are keen to support all registered nurses and nursing associates, as they embark on this process for the first time. For many it has been a daunting prospect. However, once the process has been explained and demonstrated, it becomes clearer. Revalidation is a real opportunity for our profession to demonstrate what we do every single day in a tangible and meaningful way; leading to transparency and confidence in what we do.

The Revalidation Guide below takes you through the essential steps for your revalidation.

Finally, the Team are on hand to answer any questions that you might have. Also take few minutes to check out the other resources/links here. So often what seems to be a massive hurdle turns out to be something simply sorted. So if you have any query don't hesitate to contact us.

  • NMC Standards (2018)

The NMC standards of proficiency need to be considered as we revalidate. Recognising that Paragraph 6.2 of the Code requires you as a registered nurse, midwife or nursing associate, to maintain the skills and knowledge necessary for safe and effective practice. As such, you need to continue to develop your knowledge and skills after initial registration to enable you to work safely and effectively within your chosen nursing scope of practice. This means that you will continue to deepen your knowledge, skills and experience in any relevant areas outlined in these new standards of proficiency.

For revalidation nurses, midwives and nursing associates must demonstrate that they are reflecting and maintaining Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in relation to their scope of practice. Where specialisation requires particular knowledge or skills, the standard required in practice should reflect that requirement. Nurses, midwives and nursing associates planning for revalidation should ensure that they remain up to date with the knowledge and skills that enable them to practise safely and effectively and consider their own development requirements in line with the new proficiencies and their own scope of practice.
