Every death matters, and we only have one chance to get it right. At
Birmingham and Solihull ICB, our vision is to support individual’s experiencing
dying, death, and bereavement to be provided with the right care and support they
require, whilst meeting their wishes and preferences.
The Culturally Sensitive End of Life Care Toolkit has been developed and
led by ICB and BCHC colleagues to empower staff to support them to strengthen
their confidence with everyday interactions with patients, residents and family
members to provide a compassionate, person-centred approach to end-of life care,
whilst working with diverse needs, backgrounds, cultures and religions.
Every person and culture are different, and their needs may change
depending on the End-of-Life care. It’s important that staff are aware so they
can support these changes and be an advocate for culturally safe End of Life
care.
This toolkit has been adapted and developed to provide advice, guidance,
education and support to health and social care teams across Birmingham & Solihull,
including care homes, voluntary, community and secondary care services. The
Toolkit will enable these teams to improve care outcomes for individuals and
those important to them as they approach the end of their lives.
We encourage all staff to utilise this toolkit for their learning and
cascade this out to your colleagues or others who would benefit from this, and
incorporate this into your organisation package of learning.
The toolkit contains sections on:
- End-of life Care
- Religions including, Islam, Hinduism, Christianity,
Sikhism, Buddhism, Judaism
- Communities and specialist services including:
